Description
Imagine: Moscow, October 2023. A Yandex.Taxi driver is stuck in traffic on the Garden Ring. Or a Delivery Club courier, drenched, delivering sushi along Nevsky Prospekt in St. Petersburg. Who would earn more in an hour?
During rush hour, for example, on the route from Pushkinskaya Square to Moscow-City at 9 a.m., the cost of a Yandex.Taxi ride can skyrocket from 400 to 900 rubles. An experienced taxi driver in Moscow can charge up to 1,200 rubles per hour.
A Delivery Club courier in St. Petersburg delivering pizza in a downpour can earn a bonus of up to 150% instead of the standard 180 rubles per order. This increases the pay to 360 rubles. Three such deliveries per hour equals 1,080 rubles.
However, taxi drivers pay up to 25% commission to Yandex and incur expenses on gas and vehicle depreciation. Bicycle couriers, for example, in Kazan, don't incur such expenses, retaining a larger share of their earnings, but their speed is limited.
During rush hour in Moscow, a taxi driver can reach peak rates of 1,500 rubles per hour, especially when traveling to airports. But the stability of a courier's income in rainy St. Petersburg, with lower costs, often provides a more predictable income. What's your choice?
