Why does football, the most popular sport on the planet, still cling to rules that frankly hinder the game? Remember the frantic reaction to VAR after Luis Diaz's disallowed goal in the Tottenham vs. Liverpool match in 2023? It's time for a change! Take the offside rule, a stumbling block for decades. The millimeter-long VAR lines, like in the 2022 Arsenal-Newcastle match, raise doubts. A manual throw-in? Replacing it with a kick, like in futsal, would speed up the game, avoiding the long pauses of the World Cup. A yellow card for taking off your shirt during a goal celebration is ridiculous! Emotions are part of the game. Think of Cristiano Ronaldo's undeserved card in El Clásico in 2017. It's distracting. Or the almost always ignored six-second rule for goalkeepers. Why not introduce a "net time" for the game, stopping the clock at each pause, like in basketball? This would eliminate time-wasting and make the 90-minute match more efficient, increasing the actual playing time from 50-60 minutes. The numerous substitutions introduced due to the pandemic have proven effective in keeping players healthy in the 2022/23 Premier League. These changes could make football more dynamic and fair. Which rule would you abolish? Let us know in the comments!
