The 1994 film "The Shawshank Redemption," based on the Stephen King novella, topped the list. Tim Robbins and Red Morgan Freeman's portrayal of Andy Dufresne captivated audiences. Filming took place at the Ohio State Penitentiary. Second place goes to "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," released in 2001. Peter Jackson's epic saga, inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien, transported audiences to Middle-earth, filmed in the picturesque expanses of New Zealand. Third place went to the iconic 1972 film "The Godfather," directed by Francis Ford Coppola and based on the Mario Puzo novel. This gangster saga about the Corleone family, starring Marlon Brando, won three Oscars, including Best Picture. Fourth place went to the 1975 film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," an adaptation of Ken Kesey's novel. Jack Nicholson's performance as Randle McMurphy earned him an Oscar. The film swept all of the Academy's "Big Five" statuettes. Rounding out our top is the Coen brothers' 2007 film "No Country for Old Men," based on the book by Cormac McCarthy. Javier Bardem won an Oscar for his role as Anton Chigurh. What are your favorite book adaptations? Let us know in the comments!
