Imagine we're not alone! These are the ten most promising planets for life. In first place is TRAPPIST-1e, a rocky planet 39 light-years away. Almost the size of Earth, it lies in the habitable zone. Second place is TRAPPIST-1f, also in the TRAPPIST-1 system. It is slightly colder, with a year lasting 9 Earth days. Third place is LHS 1140 b, a super-Earth 41 light-years away. It is 6.6 times more massive than Earth, with moderate warmth. Fourth place is Kepler-186f, the first Earth-sized exoplanet in the habitable zone, located 500 light-years away. Fifth place is TOI 700 d, an Earth-sized planet 100 light-years away. It receives 86% of the Sun's energy and is potentially habitable. Sixth place is Proxima Centauri b, the closest exoplanet, at 4.2 light-years away. Rocky, 17% more massive than Earth. Seventh is Kepler-452b, Earth's "big cousin." The planet is 60% larger than Earth, and its year lasts 385 days. Eighth is Ross 128 b, a rocky exoplanet 11 light years away. It is in the habitable zone of a quiet red dwarf. Ninth is Teegarden's Star b, 12.5 light years away. Its year is only 4.9 Earth days, possibly with water. Rounding out the top ten is Gliese 667 Cc, a super-Earth 22 light years away.
