Ten historic courthouses: Royal Courts of Justice on London’s Strand, Brussels Palace of Justice, the historic Palace of Justice on Paris’s Ile de la Cite, Lyon’s historic courthouse, Montreal’s old courthouse (Lucien Saulnier Building), Singapore’s former Supreme Court, Victoria’s Supreme Court in Melbourne, Bombay High Court in Mumbai, Calcutta High Court in Kolkata and the US Supreme Court in Washington, DC. An architectural selection, not a ranking of age, size or legal importance. An institution’s age is distinct from its pictured building’s age. Montreal appears from the rear at Champ de Mars, not in the incorrectly captioned Ernest Cormier photograph. The November 2012 Brussels photograph is archival and shows dome scaffolding, not the present restoration condition. Singapore’s former Supreme Court and former City Hall were converted into the National Gallery, opened in 2015.
