Imagine we're not alone! These are the ten most promising planets for life. In first place is TRAPPIST-1e, a rocky planet 39 light-years away. Almost the size of Earth, it lies in the habitable zone. Second place is TRAPPIST-1f, also in the TRAPPIST-1 system. It is slightly colder, with a year lasting 9 Earth days. Third place is LHS 1140 b, a super-Earth 41 light-years away. It is 6.6 times more massive than Earth, with moderate warmth. Fourth place is Kepler-186f, the first Earth-sized exoplanet in the habitable zone, located 500 light-years away. Fifth place is TOI 700 d, an Earth-sized planet 100 light-years away. It receives 86% of the Sun's energy and is potentially habitable. Sixth place is Proxima Centauri b, the closest exoplanet, at 4.2 light-years away. Rocky, 17% more massive than Earth. Seventh is Kepler-452b, Earth's "big cousin."
