On land, the African elephant dominates, with males reaching 4 meters and weighing up to 7 tons. Among insects, the African Goliath beetle grows up to 11 centimeters. Its larva weighs up to 100 grams!
The absolute champion in length is the Arctic cyanea, whose tentacles reach 36 meters, exceeding those of a blue whale! The largest bird is the African ostrich, up to 2.8 meters tall and weighing 150 kg. Its eggs weigh up to 1.5 kg.
Surprisingly, even single-celled organisms can be giants. Xenophyophores, found in the Mariana Trench at a depth of 10,641 meters, reach 20 centimeters in diameter. These are the largest known single-celled organisms!
