Did you know that millions of players spend hundreds of hours on season passes every year? In 2023, more than 70% of Fortnite players didn't reach level 100, missing out on exclusive skins and V-Bucks. It's pure fear of missing out.
For example, the Call of Duty: Warzone Battle Pass costs 1,000 CP ($9.99), offering up to 1,300 CP back, plus weapon blueprints and unique Operators. In Genshin Impact, the Gnostic's Favor (around $10) guarantees rare artifacts and 680 Primogems.
Diablo IV offers 90 levels of the level pass, but only 27 are free; the rest are paid cosmetics. A 2022 analysis of Steam games found that the average player spends 150 hours on the level pass, 50% of which are spent grinding for uninteresting rewards.
Riot Games (creators of League of Legends) acknowledged that most players only complete 60% of their season passes. A 2023 study by Nielsen Entertainment found that only 15% of rewards are truly meaningful to players.
Remember: "exclusivity" is often temporary. Fortnite has already brought back popular skins from 2018, and Apex Legends often features recolors of old legendary items. Play for fun, not to race through all 100 levels.
